The Mets' Prospect Outfield Star: Carson Benge's Journey to the Big Leagues
The Mets' front office, led by President of Baseball Operations David Stearns, is gearing up for a promising season. Among their prospects, outfielder Carson Benge stands out as a rising star. At just 23 years old, Benge was the first player drafted by the Stearns front office in the 2024 draft, showcasing his potential early on.
Benge's talent is reminiscent of top prospect Nolan McLean, who made his mark as a two-way player at Oklahoma State. McLean's success on the mound has earned him the title of top pitching prospect, while Benge shines in the batter's box, ranking as the No. 3 outfield prospect in baseball. The two OSU alums share a strong connection, with Benge reaching out to McLean immediately after being drafted.
Benge's journey began in High-A Brooklyn, where he thrived in the 2025 season. His exceptional performance led him to Double-A Binghamton in late June and Triple-A Syracuse in mid-August. In 116 games, Benge showcased his hitting prowess, batting .281/.385/.472 with 15 home runs and 22 stolen bases. One scout praised his ability, particularly his skill in hitting with two strikes, where he hit six homers with a .611 OPS, surpassing the MLB average OPS of .512 in that split.
Benge's preparation for the long season ahead includes attending a Mets strength camp in the fall and reporting to spring training in early January. He is determined to stay healthy and contribute to the team's success, knowing that his bat and glove will be crucial to his performance. With his pro success and a promising future in the big leagues, Benge is ready to make his mark on the MLB this season.
