Diving into the Doxa SUB 750T: A Big Watch That Wears Just Right
The Doxa SUB 750T: A Watch That Makes a Statement
Are you tired of the same old watches that just blend into the background? Do you crave a timepiece that commands attention and makes a statement? The Doxa SUB 750T is here to shake things up! This watch is not just a timekeeping device; it's a bold statement of style and personality. With its oversized wrist presence and impressive specs, the SUB 750T is a vintage-inspired diver that stands out from the crowd.
A Watch for the Big and Bold
As a tall guy, I've always been drawn to oversized watches. The Doxa SUB 750T is a perfect fit for my wrist, measuring 45mm with 47mm lug-to-lug. It's a noticeable upgrade from the 42.5mm by 45mm SUB 300, which has a cult following. But what sets the SUB 750T apart is its thinner profile and more comfortable wearability. It's like Doxa took a 23-year-old idea and made it thinner and more comfortable, all while maintaining its iconic look.
A Watch for Everyone
The SUB 750T comes in eight colors, and I had the pleasure of trying out the orange "Professional" and blue "Caribbean" models. While the full color suite can be seen online, the orange and blue models are likely the most frequently chosen options. The dials, with their sector-style design, raised, black- or white-printed indices, bold hands, and steel dive bezels, look like everything most people think of when they think of Doxa.
A Watch That's Both Big and Wearable
One of the most impressive aspects of the SUB 750T is its thickness. When it was launched in 2002, it measured around 14mm thick. But Doxa found the sweet spot between visual maximalism and a thinner profile by shaving off the excess 2mm from the original. The result is a watch that's only 11.95mm thick, making it a lot more comfortable on the wrist.
A Watch for the Price-Conscious
While the Doxa SUB 750T may not be the cheapest watch on the market, it's a solid investment for just shy of $2800 on a bracelet. And I believe that you should always buy a dive watch on a bracelet, even if you might not wear it that way most of the time. For those who prefer a mesh bracelet, Doxa's own bracelet with a deployant buckle and ratcheting wetsuit extension is plenty comfortable.
A Watch for the Tech-Savvy
The Doxa SUB 750T is powered by a Sellita SW300 automatic movement, decorated by the brand (according to the website). While the movement is not certified with any specific accuracy, it has a decent 56-hour power reserve and a fair 4Hz beat rate. However, for $2,230, you can get the same movement in a Formex Reef diver with COSC certification.
A Watch for the Adventurous
The Doxa SUB 750T is rated for 750m of water resistance, which may seem excessive for most people. But it's more about the visual than anything truly practical. Just like the Rolex Deepsea, it's a watch that's more about making a statement than anything else. And at $100 cheaper than the SUB 300, it might be the choice some buyers have been waiting for.
A Watch for the Thoughtful
While the Doxa SUB 750T may not be the watch for everyone, it's a timepiece that commands attention and makes a statement. Whether you're a fan of vintage-inspired divers or just looking for a watch that stands out from the crowd, the SUB 750T is definitely worth considering. So, what do you think?
