Bruntwood SciTech has unveiled ambitious plans to breathe new life into the city's beloved Manchester One tower. With a £17 million investment, they aim to transform this 21-story landmark into a modern, sustainable hub while preserving its iconic status. But is this revamp worth the price tag?
The proposal includes a comprehensive refurbishment, adding a four-story extension to increase floor space to a whopping 160,000 square feet. This extension will feature a grand double-height reception area, inviting communal spaces, and open staircases connecting flexible work and hospitality areas. But here's where it gets controversial: the redevelopment focuses on sustainability. Gas boilers will be replaced with heat pumps, and a new electrical substation will support the building's electrification. Is this a necessary step, or an over-investment in a time of economic uncertainty?
